Located in Board of Education District 1 and KCS Region 5, Vine Middle Magnet School has been serving students since 1951.

Vine Middle Magnet School is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment that fosters open-minded and engaged learning through a broad, international approach to education grounded in research-based, data-driven instruction.

Vine Middle Magnet School is a Candidate School* for the Middle Years Program (MYP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy — a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Vine Middle Magnet believes is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the PrimaryYears Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

School Administrators

Principal

Robin Curry

Ms. Curry joined Knox County Schools in 2001 as a teacher at Bearden Elementary School. She also worked as a parent educator before returning as a teacher at Cedar Bluff Middle School. She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2015 and placed at Vine Middle School as an assistant principal, and later served as assistant principal of West Valley Middle School. In 2019, she was named principal of Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy. In 2024, Ms. Curry was appointed principal of Vine Middle Magnet School.

Ms. Curry holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a master's degree in Elementary Education and an education specialist degree in Educational Leadership, all from the University of Tennessee.

Academic Principal

Dr. Rachel Evans

Dr. Evans is a seasoned educator and school leader with more than 15 years of experience in various educational roles. She began her career in education in 2010 as a teacher at Bearden Middle School, where she taught until 2014. She then continued her career for the next 7 years at South Doyle Middle School, first as an Instructional Coach focusing on helping teachers incorporate technology into their teaching, and then as an Assistant Administrator. In 2021, Dr. Evans continued her administrative career as an Assistant Principal at Karns High School, focused on curriculum and instruction. Dr. Evans also helped pilot the 865 Academies at Karns High School and was the lead of the Business and Entrepreneurship Academy. In 2024, Dr. Evans moved to Vine Middle School as the Assistant Principal over Curriculum and Instruction, where she focuses on increasing student achievement and supporting teacher growth.

Dr. Evans holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in teacher education, both from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Evans also holds an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership and a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership, both from Lincoln Memorial University.

Culture Principal

Dr. Moniqueca Navarre

Dr. Navarre is an experienced educator and school leader with nearly two decades of experience in various educational roles. She began her career in education in 2005 as an adjunct English Professor at Nashville State Community College. She then moved to Japan, where she taught English as a second Language for a year before returning home to Atlanta, Ga to continue teaching at Atlanta Metropolitan University. In 2008 she transitioned to teaching as a Special Education Teacher in Chicago Public Schools, where she taught for 5 years before moving to Knoxville, TN. Since moving to Knoxville, she has taught at Vine Middle school and at Emerald Academy, where she began her career in administration in 2017 as the Dean of Scholars. After returning to Vine for 3 years as a Behavior Liaison, she moved to Sarah Moore Greene where she served as an assistant administrator for two years. In 2024, Dr. Navarre returned to Vine Middle, where she currently serves as one of the Assistant Principals, overseeing School Culture.

Dr. Navarre holds both a Bachelor degree and Master degree in English, from Tennessee State University; Master of Arts in Teaching degree from National-Louis University and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Operations Principal

Jonathan East

Mr. East is an accomplished educator and school leader with a rich background in music and administration. He began his career teaching Orchestra at McConnell Middle School and South Gwinnett High School in 1999. In 2000, he joined Knox County Schools and served as Orchestra Director and AP Music Theory teacher at Austin-East High School and Vine Middle School. Transitioning into administration, Jonathan was Assistant Principal at Gresham Middle School in 2009, Curriculum Principal at Fulton High School in 2011, Austin-East High School in 2013, and Farragut High School in 2014, and Assistant Principal at West High School in 2015. Since 2024, he has served as Assistant Principal at Vine Middle School, focusing on building strong relationships with students, streamlining organizational structures, and using data to drive academic success.

Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia, a master’s in School Supervision and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University, and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Tennessee as part of Cohort One of the KCS Leadership Academy.

Assistant Administrator

Dr. Tiffany Flood

Dr. Flood is a dedicated educator and accomplished school leader with nearly two decades of experience in teaching and administration. She began her career in education during the 2001–2002 school year at Northwest Middle School, where she served as a classroom teacher until 2021. In 2025, Dr. Flood transitioned into educational leadership, joining Vine Middle Magnet School as an Assistant Administrator.

Dr. Flood holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and two master’s degrees—one in Leadership and Supervision from Bethel University and another in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. She also earned both her Educational Specialist and Doctor of Education degrees from Carson-Newman University.

Her commitment to excellence, passion for student success, and dedication to empowering both teachers and learners continue to drive her work in education.

Assistant Administrator & Athletic Director

Bryan Powers

Mr. Powers proudly serves as the Assistant Administrator and Athletic Director at Vine Middle School, where he is committed to building strong relationships with students, staff, families, and the community. With more than 20 years of experience in education, Mr. Powers has dedicated his career to creating positive school cultures that support both academic excellence and character development.

Before joining Vine Middle School, Mr. Powers served in multiple leadership roles and teaching positions in Roane and Loudon County, where he focused on instructional coaching, school culture, and athletics. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Greenback and West High School. His passion for education is rooted in the belief that every student deserves a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Mr. Powers holds his administrative certification from the University of Tennessee. In addition to his work in academics, he has been actively involved in athletics, leading programs that emphasize teamwork, discipline, and character.

When he’s not at school, Mr. Powers enjoys spending time with his family, supporting local athletics, and giving back to the community he calls home.
